Coming in one month: Bastille Day Quiz! Can you crack the class codes? (Etes-vous un aristocrate? bourgeois? ou un sans-culotte?)

Sans-culotte

(this guy is definitely sans-culotte; and a hottie!)

Hello readers! Sorry for the long silence, been writing, reading, aiming for deadlines, the usual. You know.

Happy to announce that in just 30 days we will post the annual Bastille Day Quiz! The theme this year is CLASS. Can you crack the codes of revolutionary France? or modern France?

To whet your appetite (or begin the Wikipedia searching), a question drawn from my recent research:

What ci-devant nobleman attended a “republican baptism” during the Revolution and adopted the name citoyen Bonhomme [citizen Fellow]?

Was it…

  1. Claude-Henri de Saint-Simon (1760-1825), later author of Le Nouveau christianisme: Dialogues entre un Conservateur et un Novateur (1825)
  2. Charles Maurice de Talleyrand-Périgord (1754-1838), a laicized French bishop, politician, and diplomat
  3. Honoré Gabriel Riqueti, comte de Mirabeau (1749-91), a leader during the early stages of Revolution

Bon courage!
