Where’s the pillow? Où est le coussin? (Day Four / Quatrième jour)

Today’s excursion was longer and shorter than expected.  How is that possible?  We cut short our visit because of the freezing rain and gusty winds. But our return trip was much longer than expected because the bus was cancelled and we had to walk.  Why did the bus not run as usual, you might ask?  Well, it’s Saturday, and those yellow vest-wearing demonstrators were in the streets again.  Today’s protest went right down the street we’re staying on, though we were not here to see it. Go figure!

Notre excursion s’est avérée en même temps plus courte et plus longue que prévu.  Comment expliquer ce paradoxe ?  D’abord, on a dû raccourcir une visite pour fuir la pluie et le vent arctique. En revanche on a dû marcher beaucoup plus longtemps qu’on n’avait pensé pour rentrer, car le bus no. 91 a été annulé. Pourquoi le bus ne roulait pas, vous demandez ? Ah, c’est samedi–le jour des manifestations. Les « Gilets jaunes » ont monté une autre manifestation—en fait, ils se sont manifestés dans la rue que nous habitons ! Mais nous ne l’avons même pas vue.  Allez savoir !
