What is the worst book inspired by the French Revolution published recently?

There may be others, but I vote for Stassi Schroeder, Off With My Head: The Definitive Basic B*tch Handbook to Surviving Rock Bottom (2022).  A few tidbits to justify my vote:

In the Introduction, “Welcome to the Guillotine,” the author bemoans sharing an Instagram post with the caption “Nazi chic” (thanks to her initials, SS, on the outfit) among other crude and insensitive comments shared in public.

“I felt and still feel so strongly about how wrong I was, and clearly I still had a lot to learn. Kind of like Marie Antoinette, only instead of getting the chance to learn from her mistakes and step back and recognize her privilege, she had her beautifully coiffed head chopped off” (p. 4).

The author’s main complaint appears to be getting “canceled”* from such stellar accomplishments as a role on Bravo’s reality television series Vanderpump Rules, losing a publicist, losing an agent, and losing other things she almost had, including an animated series and a nation-wide tour to promote… something.

For a lesson about learning from one’s bad behavior, rich-girl attitude, and privilege, it is ironic that the section labeled “32 Lessons for My Daughter” at the end includes:

No. 2, “A spray tan is such a confidence booster.”

No. 4, “Always have your nails done.”

No. 18, “Botox is preventative.”

And, for the record, Marie-Antoinette’s head was not “beautifully coiffed” when she was led to the guillotine, as the famous image by Jacques-Louis David, above, has shown.

Into the trash you go, SS!  (well, that disgrace I wouldn’t wish on any landfill, so I’ll just put her book in a “Little Lending Library”…  in some other neighborhood.)

*Canceled in emphasis because the author devotes an entire chapter to the concept.
